Founded by now, U of R graduate and Rochester-area entrepreneur Asad H. Muhammad – Taste of Supreme – at the Rochester Public Market and other locations has become a favorite of many and more to come.

It all started at age 7 while using a chair to reach the kitchen counter top and help his mother knead flour into dough as she prepared biscuits from scratch. Asad watched her take common nutritional ingredients and turn them into pastries, cakes and pies. And the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester, on Genesee Street, has been a major part of his success. He became a member of Boys and Girls Clubs of Rochester when he was 14 years-old. The training he received in the club’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy inspired him to start his own baking business. He was able to legalize his business through the program.
“Asad was driven to succeed,” said Dwayne Mahoney, executive director of Boys and Girls Club of Rochester. “Everyone from the program wasn’t able to launch his or her business. Asad was determined to make it happen, he just needed some help to get over some hurdles, like a place to cook.” The goal is not just to sell pies, cakes, cookies that wholesomely healthy and delicious but also to show young people that whatever they decide to do, it can be done with a mindset to give back to their community,” he said. “I’m here speaking today because of what my community has given to me. I want my business to be a message of giving, and cause.”
